Gateway

The Gateway programme gives students structured workplace learning in the field of their choice while they are still at school. Year 11 to 13 students are eligible to participate and a workplace learning component is incorporated into the student's overall study programme.

Students pursue individual learning programmes, allowing them to gain new skills and knowledge with an employer in their local community. The learning is hands on and practical. Students are assessed in the workplace for unit and achievement standards contributing to the National Certificate of Educational Achievement, as well as industry specific qualifications.

Mahurangi College, KingsWay School, Orewa College, Whangaparaoa College, and Rodney College have formed a cluster for consistent delivery of Gateway to local employers.

Donna Dudley, the Gateway broker, liaises with schools and selects employers for work placements. Gateway is supported by more than 100 local employers who actively support students in their desired career paths.

Examples of successful placements include Brooke Wilson with Trelise Cooper & more recently a student interested in Journalism is with 60 Minutes.
